The establishment of the Republic of China put an end to feudalsociety in China’s history. At this time artists were desired to end thesluggish and dreary state of Chinese Landscape painting since the lateQing Dynasty so as to create a new world for themselves. The rise ofNew Culture Movement raised a tide of fine arts resolution which firstpointed towards the literati painting represented by Landscape painting.This work reviewed the dilemma of fine arts in the late the Republic ofChina, compared three representative but antagonistic art trends duringRepublic of China, and analyzed the thoughts on innovation oflandscape at that time. This work also selected and further analyzedsome representive artist’s paintings exhibiting three different landscapestyles (antique, combining old and new, and Chinese and Westerncombined) as the practice results in this innovation. This paperconcluded that the trend of thought in Art affected and directed artcreation in concept, however, Chinese painting develops and evolutesmerely according to its own laws.
