This study mainly discusses the design of College English intensive readingexercises under the theory of TBEL. In the research,questionnaire and interviews arecarried out on the basis of the intensive reading course books of College English whichwas published by Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press,to gain objectivefindings of the teachers' and students' feelings and expectations regarding the exercises.In this thesis,the author applies the TBEL,together with the communicative languageteaching method(CLT) and attempts to find out the guidelines,o r the model for the mainexercises appearing in course books. Vocabulary, drills,reading comprehension,writing,cloze and translation, etc. are discussed respectively, with the correspondingexamples or procedures in each section.The author hopes that this study could be of some value in course book evaluation,a ndteacher training.
