The Development Of Cognitive Style Questionnaire

As an important component of mental health diathesis, cognitive style has beenstudied more deeply in clinical psychology since1960. By literature review, cognitivestyle has been defined in some ways. There is few definition that can integrate alldefinitions and components that have put forward. it is important to recognize theeffect of cognitive style contributing to mental health, and can supply more ways forclinical therapy.Reivwing previous theories, this study defines cognitive style and its maindimensions, then develops Cognitive Style Questionnaire.The content validity of Cognitive Style Questionnaire includes two aspects: thecommon degree of the items and the fitness between items and dimensions. Theresults reveal that the common degree of these items and conformity degree ofdimensions are both high and its expert evaluation is good.Construct validity mainly has three parts:(1) Items are mainly analyzed by itemdiscrimination and the results are all over0.500, and most reach0.600.(2) Confirmat-ory Factor Analysis also tests construct validity, the results reveal that the fitness ofdata model is good and the factor of item loading is nearly above0.400and most ofthem are above0.45.(3)The goodness of fit of High-order Factor Analysis shows thatthe contributions of the four dimensions to the loading of factor are all above0.80.Through studying concurrent validity, we find that the whole score and itsdimensions are significantly related to the dimensions of Stress Distress Scale. Thecorrelation of overgeneralizaion to all dimensions of Stress Distress Scale is greaterthan or equal to0.400; the correlation among hostility, anxiety, overgeneralization,selective extraction and personalizing is also high. The correlations among hostility,depression anxiety and somatization are more than0.350.Convergent validity is mainly calculate the score of correlation betweenCognitive Bias Questionnaire and Cognitive Style Questionnaire and the result is0.429. However, the correlation between the total score of Cognitive BiasQuestionnaire and distorted score is0.258(p<0.01).Reliability and validity results show that Cognitive Style Questionnaire is areliable and effective measurement tools, and can be used to evaluate cognitive stylein Chinese adults.
