With the development of English teaching theory and computertechnology, more and more English teaching software popularizes inChina. At the same time, the number of researches on the software isnumerous. It is pointed that most of these researches mainly focus onEnglish major, rather a large part of non-English majors are ignored. However, there is a great quantity of students who are non-Englishmajor learning English, involving much more disciplines. They benefit alot from learning English. It is also the focal point to developing Englishlearning software. This study uses Schema Theory as guidance, combining withSecond Language Acquisition based on Cognitive linguistics. It adoptsNetBox technology in order to achieve the purpose for college Englishreading individualized, self-access learning and engineering students’specialized reading. Users of the platform are positioned in engineeringmajors. Their21categories divided based on the professional directoryenacted in1997. The platform consists of21disciplines, three levels ofrequirements which are based on College English Curriculum requirements. The software is divided into21majors. Each major hasthree requirements. Each difficulty is composed of four modules whichare preparation, material, practice and summary. This study aimed to establish the computer-aided andstudent-centered engineering students’ English reading platform. Theunique advantages of the platform are mainly reflected in the followingparts:1. Autonomous function. It carries out cognitive concepts ofSecond Language Acquisition. Students can arrange the studiesdepending on their own demands. The autonomous learning involves theself-paced learning and controlling the learning frequency.2. Focus on scientificalness. This platform is guided by schematheory and established as a basis of modern technology information, particularly network technology as support, combining withRequirements. It adopts ASP language to editor program. That makes iteasy to master and manipulate.3. Focus on practicability. This platform eventually achieves thepurpose of engineering students for specialized reading. It focuses onthe students’ language proficiency and self-learning ability. It aims to improve students’ reading speed and accuracy, and to broaden thereading content.
