| Developing students’ English reading and writing ability is an important part of developing students’ language skills.The English Curriculum Standards for General High School edited in 2017 states that: “article type refers to the different styles of texts such as narrative texts,argumentative texts,explanatory texts,and applied texts,as well as verbal,written and other multimoding forms such as texts,figures,shows,songs,audios,videos,etc.Under the guidance of teachers,students should be familiar with the article forms and grasp the specific structures,stylistic features and expressions of different articles”.Therefore,teachers need to conduct the schema-based teaching strategies for English reading and writing abilities enhancement of different text types in high school.The author specially does “A survey on high school students’ present situation of English reading and writing”,and has the following findings: The students can not use schema knowledge in reading and writing correctly;when students read the articles,they have to spend too much time reading with poor efficiency,and their understanding only remains in the shallow level;when students write,there will be too many grammatical and spelling/lexical errors,and the framework of the text cannot be arranged reasonably.The contents of their writings are also empty.On account of the problems appeared in reading and writing,this paper focuses on how to conduct the schema-based teaching strategies to improve students’ reading and writing ability.This paper firstly introduces the development process of schema,teases the achieved research results related to schema at home and abroad,which provides the theoretical basis for this research.Secondly,the specific strategies of schema-based teaching for English reading and writing have been shown.This paper begins with the three types of schema: formal schema,content schema and language schema;based on the high school Oxford English textbook;explains the schema-based teaching strategies of how to deconstruct the schema,construct the schema,and reconstruct the schema during the reading and writing process through one teaching sample;transfers and applies the textual schema got in reading to the new writing process through arranging the new writing tasks of the same types,achieves the synchronous improvement from reading to writing.Finally,the author selects two classes in a high school for a two-semester teaching experiment to verify the effectiveness on the schema-based teaching strategies for English reading and writing ability enhancement by English tests.Empirical results show that: The schema-based teaching strategies can enhance students’ reading ability;applying schema-based teaching strategies to reading can promote students’ writing ability;adopting the schema-based teaching strategies can add students’ total English scores.This research aims to cultivate the students’ schema-based ability to deconstruct,construct,reconstruct the textual schema in different types of texts during reading teaching;then transfers the schema knowledge obtained in reading to the writing,achieves the synchronous improvement from reading to writing.This study plays a certain reference role in high school English teaching. |
