Character strength are a family of positive dispositions reflected through one’sthough, feelings and actions. Positive psychology has refocused scientific attention oncharacter strength, identifying it as one of the pillars of this new field and central tothe understanding of the psychological good life. More and more research show thatcharacter strength play an important role on the development of youth, therefore, it isnecessary to develop scientifically valid and reliable measures of character strength,discussing the influencing factors of it, which is helpful to build and cultivatecharacter strength among youth for positive youth development.On the basis of previous study conclusions and literature review, this researchdraw up the predict questionnaire of middle school students’ character strength. Theformal questionnaire was emerged by EFA and passed reliability and validity test afterpredict testing to150middle school students. Then, this research tested514middleschool students with formal questionnaire, and studied the characteristics and relatedfactors of it.The conclusion of this research as follows:(1)The questionnaire of middle school students’character strength has goodreliability and validity, and it is a valid questionnaire for future study.(2)There is a remarkable gender difference among middle school students: malescores obviously higher than female on the creativity and curiosity; just on thegratitude female scores higher than male.(3) There is a remarkable child difference among middle school students: onlychild scores obviously higher than the non-only child on the creativity, leadership,optimistic, humor, social intelligence, and kindness. (4) There is a remarkable urban-rural difference among middle school students:just on the creativity, leadership, optimistic, humor, social intelligence, student fromcity scores higher than countryside, and only the forgiveness score is lower.(5)Compared with the worse psychological health students, the goodpsychological health students share a significant score in12character strength such asbravery, forgiveness, honesty, hope and so on.(6)Factors of family environment have positive correlations with characterstrength. Family environment has a significant prediction of character strengths,and ithas big influences on character strength. Regression analysis indicates thatharmonious property, self-cultivation property, and culture property of familyenvironment have the forecast function regarding the character strength.
