| Mental health service in the world has been undergoing a huge change from focusing upon psychological problems to stressing on positive traits.Mental health practitioners,clinical psychologists,psychotherapists,and psychological counselors all put emphasis on the symptoms of human mental disorders.Positive psychology,founded in the 1990 s,has put forward a new perspective of how to cope with psychological problems and concentrate upon human positive traits.Thus,a tremendous change occurred to psychological sciences and human beings life because of positive psychology.Three main themes of positive psychology are positive subjective experience,positive personal traits,and positive environment.Seligman suggested that psychology should recover the two other missions of facilitating human good life and nurturing talent besides treating mental diseases.Building human strengths is one of the most critical goals of positive psychology.To achieve these objectives,our primary mission is to explore the character strengths of human.There are a number of issues needed to be addressed,such as the number of character strengths,its nature and classification.College students are a special and important group.They are facing increasingly complex social environment and suffering more pressures on learning and careers.How to enhance the mental health of college students has become an important topic of Education.Elevating their character strength is an important way to improve their psychological health and integrity,to achieve students’ self-growth.Therefore,to cultivate student’s positive qualities has becoming one of the current tasks of mental health.Based on the theory of positive psychology,we explored the character strengths of college students.There are 7059 respondents participating in the survey in which we identified 96 positive qualities.There are 13 latent variables based on the above investigation and personality theory.Then we explained these character factors and put forward some strategies to enhance the character strengths of college students. |
