Study On Discourse Markers "You-V"

Discourse markers, one kind of linguistic methods used in expressing speakers’subjective ideas, is an essential factor of formatting and understanding the conversation.Basis on the research of discourse markers home and broad, this text focus on “you-V” inmodern Chinese which includes the following four parts:Firstly, discriminating four concepts. Discourse markers is closed related withpragmatic markers, metadiscourse, and parenthesis. It discovered that pragmatic markers,metadiscourse, and discourse markers are a kind of “insert” composition. Parenthesisreflects the features of their syntax. Analyzing on the discourse, it can divide into twoaspects, namely the basic discourse and metadiscourse. A parenthesis in the complementsentence belongs to a class of basic discourse, and expressing subjectivity of the speaker inthe metadiscourse dimensions, which form fixed higher degree is pragmaticmarkers.What’s more, the part of pragmatic markers, which meaning standing forprocedural codes is discourse markers. According to the different objects, it can be called as“discourse markers of expressing subjectivity” and “discourse markers of expressinginter-subjectivity”.Secondly, studying on the formations and semantic features. This text focus ondiscourse markers of “you-V” such as “you see”,“you speak”,“you listen”,“you think”,“you know”,“you guess”. The changeable shapes of them can be put into practice in followfour ways: subject implication, verb duplication, construction duplication, and adv or moodwords addition. Discourse markers of “you-V” experienced three steps:“you-V1”,indicating the guide markers of realistic meaning for one’s behaviors;“you-V2”, showingthe meaning of epistemis modality; and “you-V3”, representing the discourse markers ofparagraphs. As the discourse markers of “you-V”, it only follows-up with statements,exclamatory sentences, and rhetorical questions. And semantics of following-up sentence patterns is verified with the speaker.Thirdly, analyzing discourse function.“you-V” just has two main functions ofdiscourse coherence and interpersonal interaction. The function of discourse coherenceincludes form coherence and contents coherence. From the forms, both speakers of aconversation maintain the communicating process through continuing and taking turns.From the contents, the speakers organized the topics in order to transmitting theinformation. The function of interpersonal interaction mainly states on transference,seeking recognition, and reminding. A same discourse marker of a paragraph can manageboth functions simultaneously.Lastly, inspecting the formation mechanism. The formation of “you-V” is restricted bythe semantic, syntax, and pragmatic. Grammaticalization of syntax states on the structuralreanalysis and decategorization of the elements. The canalization of semantics, it acquiresthe meaning by the process of eclipsing of “you”and “V”to the whole format of “you-V”.And the internalism of pragmatics just includes pragmatic inference andinter-subjectivication. Inter-subjectivication is the fundamental motivation for the form of“you-V”.
