Buddhist Temple And Chang’an City Layout In Sui And Tang Dynasties

Sui and Tang dynasties were the prosperous period in china history.Chang’an asthe captial of Sui and Tang dynasties, gradually become the cultural center of thecountry,even the cultural center of the world. In this paper,Chang’an was theresearching area which was Buddhism Holy Land in Sui and Tang dynasties, templewas the subject.And combined the city layout of Chang’an with Buddhist templesystem. According to the distribution and characteristics of Chang’an temples,discussed the effects of Chang’an city layout to temple construction in Sui and Tangdynasties.And the improvement of Chang’an social and cultural speace structure toBuddhist temples.This paper is divided into three parts.The first part of the paper is about the Chang’an city layout and Buddhist templedistribution in Sui and Tang dynasties.This is the basic part of this thesis.First,discussed about the site selection and layout in Sui and Tang dynasties.Secondlysummed up the main Buddhist temple of Chang’an in Sui and Tang dynasties by thehistorical data.Finaly list the distribution of Chang’an Buddhist temple in Sui and Tangdynasties, then drew two forms and two maps.From the froms and maps we could seethe Chang’an Buddhist temple’s distribution in Sui and Tang dynasties,then researchthe characteric.The second part of the paper is the influencing factors of Buddhist templedistribution.From the research in first part, draw a conclusion about the influencingfactors of Buddhist temple distribution.This part is divided into for segments: the firstsegment is the factor of economic center; the second segment is the factor of imperialcity;the third segment is the factor of palace; the fourth segment is the factor of area.From the four segments, we could prove that: the distribution characteristics of Sui andTang dynasties in Chang’an were restricted by the layout of Chang’an city.The third part of the paper told the improvement of Chang’an social and cultural’slayout inflenced by the Buddhist temples. Buddhist temple as the basic carrier ofBuddhism development was good for Buddhist cultural developing.This part divided into five parts to tell the improvement of Chang’an cultural area.Mainly including thecenter of Buddhist scets,the translation center of Buddist scripture,the exchange centerof monks,the education center of Buddhism and the recreation center of Buddhism.From the five parts,we can prove under the influence of Chang’an city’s layout,formeda diversity culture area,and inproved the layout of Chang’an social culture in Sui andTang dynasties.Through the analysis,we found that Chan’an city layout influenced the distributionof Buddhist temple in Sui and Tang dynasties.At the same time,the distribution anddevelopment of Buddhist temple also react the socio-cultural space of Chang’an city inSui and Tang dynasties.And it was good for the distribution of socio-cultural space inChang’an.They restrict each other, and influenced each other.
