Objective:Finding out the status of middle school students’ psychological health levels and individual riskbehaviors and analyzing the effects on middle school student’s mental health and personalbehaviors of the personality, family cohesion and adaptability, as well as other related variables.A math model was built to explain the connection among these factors.Methodology: Personal information was acquired through homemade blinded questionnairesamong605junior school freshmen in Wuhan, with the"Chinese middle school students’ mentalhealth scale (MSSMHS)","Eysenck personality questionnaire" and "family Cohesion andadaptability scale as the guidelines. Data was analyzed by descriptive analysis, t-test, analysis ofvariance, x2test, Logistic regression analysis, multivariate linear regression analysis and pathanalysis.Results:1). The rate of psychological disorder is80.7%among the students, with severe psychologicaldisorder rate as40.5%. The psychological health problems are closely connected to five factorsincluding obsessive-compulsive disorder, emotional balance, and pressure of schoolwork,maladjustment, tensional and sensitive interpersonal relationship.2). The average score of personal risk behaviors was2.27±0.96, with the playing computergames(73.4%), running away from home (13.2%), fighting (15%), suicide or attempted suicide(10.7%) as the top four factors..3)The main factors affecting the students’ psychological healthy were as followed: thewillingness to communicate with their parents (OR,95%CI (1.106-3.036)), nervousness (OR,95%CI (1.204-1.323)), family adaptability (OR,95%CI (0.950-0.985), absence or truancy (OR,95%CI (0.146-0.752)), suicide OR attempted suicide (OR,95%CI (1.368-6.300)).4).The main factors affecting the students’ risk behaviors were as followed: family economicstatus, parents’ staying home, gender, nervousness, family cohesion, mental health levels.5). The results of math model one: the family cohesion’s direct effect on risk behaviors was0.1,with indirect effect as-0.045and the total effect as0.145.; family adaptability’s direct effecton risk behaviors was0.1, with indirect effect as-0.019and the total effect as0.119;nervousness’s effect is0.114to the behavior of the individual.6). The results of math model two: the family cohesion’s direct effect on students’ mental healthlevel was0.24, with indirect effect as-0.014, and the total effect as0.254. The familyadaptability’s direct effect on the psychological health level was0.1, with the indirect effect as-0.017and the total effect as0.117. Nervousness’ effect on mental health level was0.034. Conclusion:The incidence of junior school freshmen’s mental disorder was very high, and the vastmajority of them had severe psychological disorders. The related factors had significantinfluence on mental health level such as nervousness, family relationship, family adaptability.Individual risk behaviors and mental health had close relations between each other.The incidences of junior school freshmen’s individual behavior were low, but they had highrisk to their health. Their influence on gender, nervousness, family condition, and familycohesion was significant.It was urgent and suggestive to carry out specific mental health education strategy andindividual behavior intervention strategies for middle students.
