This is a retrospective research report on the basis of the translation of the shortfiction The Architects. The author of the fiction is Wena Poon, a famedSingapore-born, US-based poet and fiction writer, who won an international shortstory prize in England in2010with the fiction.The first part of the report is the introduction to the source text, includinginformation about the author of the original and a summary of the source text. Thenfollows the overview of the translation process, in which the present writer reviewsthe difficulties in the translation and the ways of resolving those difficulties. The thirdpart is the main body of the report, in which example analyses are given one by one toexplain the adopted translation strategies or methods and evaluate the translationeffect. Specifically, this part comprises eight aspects:1. The seeking for faithfulness;2. The attention to the context;3. The consideration for building the images of theprotagonists of different dispositions;4. The adoption of domesticating strategy;5.The handling of untranslatability;6. The necessary addition in the translation;7. Thepursuit of naturalness;8. The use of the accessible online resources. Finally, in theconclusion part, the author presents what he has gained from the translation,summarizing the high lights and the weaknesses of his translation as well as his goalin the future. It is hoped that some of those summaries will be conducive to thetranslation practice of other translators or translation learners.
