Clothing is the vehicle of the social complexities and the essential component of the human social cultures. The development and the transition of the Chinese clothing imply the various contents of political institution, economical structure, and cultural concept, orientation of social ideas, religion and customs, meanwhile they also reflect the understanding and the quest for human living style, ideologies, aesthetic tendencies and definition of the fashion. Therefore, the clothing transition in different eras shall have an undivided connection with the social changes. The founding of the People’s Republic of China revolutionized greatly in various aspects in the political institution, economical structure, social classification of Chinese society as well as the ideologies and living styles of Chinese people. As the most explicit materialized cultural expression in social lives and as a vital part of people’s lives, the clothing is affected, too. And it reflects the post-liberation social reformation in Chinese politics, economy, cultures and ideologies. Since the founding of the Republic, we have never made a specific clothing standardization. However, we still fulfilled the political mission of changing the style of the clothing to signify the substitution of the reign and successfully popularized the new aesthetic standards and clothing fashions. Such change is not a simple clothing transition, but a product of Chinese revolutionizing and politicization. The post-liberation transition of clothing is not the development and continuation of the previous clothing styles and it greatly changed the natural transitional process of Chinese clothing. The popularity changes are greatly influenced by the social changes, which have an epochal push to the development of the development of the Chinese clothing. The features of post-liberation Chinese clothing are pan-revolutionizing, pan-politicization: effects by the economy;less tradition-inherited, more foreign-referred. Meanwhile, clothing transition is featured by the tendency from conformism to variation, from simplicity to splendor, from one-way imitation to mutual influence.
