It is generally accepted in current academic research that Xu Wei’s large scroll calligraphy style had been influenced by his painting. More importantly, the development of "calligraphy and painting as one " concept are closely related. Xu Wei’s "calligraphy and painting as one " concept expressed as the independence of ink language based on the concept of "don’t pursue the similar appearance".So that, the vocabulary of calligraphy and painting can be exchanged. In practice, Xu Wei’s painting showed a style of two-dimensional, symbolic, and calligraphic, the main features of its vocabulary is "point and cluster"(dian cu点簇)The process of Xu Wei’s exploration of large scroll calligraphy was as the same of the process of enter and adjustment of painting vocabulary. In this study, the overall idea is to deduce "knowing how" on the basis of" knowing what". With the precondition of the relationship of Xu Wei’s large scroll calligraphy, ideas and vocabulary of his painting, to trace the origin and theoretical foundation of Xu Wei’s " calligraphy and painting as one " concept, in order to explore the process of the enter of painting vocabulary and success of the exploration of Xu Wei’s large scroll calligraphy.
