Although this article may inevitably involves the text of Palace of Eternal Youth, the main object of study is the historical process of the research of the text, which is generally believed to have started in1954.After the founding of new China in1949, the ideology which was formed and developed during the revolution had a huge impact on cultural, artistic and academic construction. This realistic literary standard, which was based on class character and national character, and emphasized on criticism and praise, has deeply restricted the writing and literary criticism. The new literary concept has led to political and simplification phenomenon, but it has also promoted the conversion of the study mode of Palace of Eternal Youth.Since the relationship between literature and politics are quite complicated in China, this article’s main purpose is to do a historical investigation on the study history of Palace of Eternal Youth after1949in mainland China, based on academic results.This article is divided into two parts by the year1979, which have very different characteristics since the political environment, social policies and cultural policies were different during the two periods.From this aspect, we could say that the study on Palace of Eternal Youth after the founding of new China is a miniature of the complexity of politic and academic. It shows that the prosperous of academic depends on the relationship between politic and academic. While adhering to the right political direction, academic research should have full freedom and independence. Relatively relaxed political and academic environment can improve academic’s development. We should also see that unpolitical factor, such as economic and administrative, also have profound impacts.
