CHEN Song (About1736-1799A.D), called ZHONG Yue, alternative name:XIAO Sheng is one of the famous painters in Qianlong and Jiajing period of Qing Dynasty. He is good at painting and poetizing, especially on sketching from nature and very famous on plum flower painting. Moreover, collection is one of his hobbies in his daily life.CHEN Song’s success was based on his hard working and a wide acquaintance. CHEN Song usually painted with some famous painters such as LUO Ping, ZHANG Cining, DONG Xun, QIAN Dong etc at that time. Additionally, WENG Fanggang, HONG Liangji, LIU Yong, FA Shishan, WU Xilin, well-known scholars and senior officers in QING Dynasty often exchanged letters with him. Through those contacts, CHEN Song largely improved his painting skills, poetizing, and enlarged his field of view. In his old age, CHEN Song moved to Beijing, he established and joined in different circle of friends, which influenced his painting style and position in painting circles. This study emphasized on elaborating the CHENG Song’s career and painting skills according to different painters and poets’view, moreover, this study briefly investigated the circle of friends of CHENG Song. Based on historical literatures, poems, painting works, by making us of the textual research and discussion method, this study described the experience of his worked in the temple of KUI WenGe in SHAN Dong province and lifetime in Beijing. According to his left painting works, this research studied his painting style and characteristic of brush-and-ink, indicated a clear picture of CHEN Song’s stories about friends making. This study re-appeared the artistic image of CHEN Song in art history and also developed the historical materials of painters in QING Dynasty.
