The origin of Noh play goes back to the “music” in Han Dynasty ofChina. The Noh play of Japan could ultimately from the classical dramathough two stages. Yuan drama of China could ultimately from theclassical drama though the “music” of Song Dynasty. In a word, the Yuandrama and Noh have the same origin but different branch. From then on,they go sovereign way.The Noh is created by Zeami who is endowed with the distinguishedtrait of singing and dancing because he is good at lyrical. Zeami createdthe “mysterious” as the centre of Noh theory. Yuan drama which isrepresented by Guan Hanqing has both lyrical and narrative features.Yuan drama and Noh are belong to east drama and possess theperformance and characteristic feature. Yuan drama and Noh are called“drama poem” and lyricism is their essence feature.Yuan drama and Noh are typical representative of classical drama in their country. They have different artistic characteristic although there isintimately involved in the arts. So a comparative study on the similaritiesand differences between artistic features is a necessary and meaningfulresearch work. The author tried to analyze the similarities and differencesin terms of artistic feature by comparative literature theory and textualanalysis method. At the same time, we take the composition of GuanHanqing and Zeami as the centre of the comparative research.The first chapter, this paper briefly introduces the general picture ofYuan drama and Noh play, both on the system structure and the way ofperformance have many similarities, there are also many differences.Yuan drama and Noh play have the same origin but different branch.The second chapter, Yuan drama shows the "artistic conception" ofthe Chinese unique aesthetic concept, while Noh show the "sorrow" ofthe Japanese aesthetic ideas. From the works, Yuan drama is more payattention to the expression of" meaning ", and Noh play pay moreattention to the construction of a "state".The third chapter, we analyze the difference of Yuan drama and Noh from the aesthetic point.Emotion in essence is not only freehandbrushwork, but also shows a different nature. Noh is able to embody theintroverted, closed, fits the characteristics of noble aesthetic ideal, showsthe beauty of "mysterious". Yuan drama is extroversion, open, observedthe lives of laborers at the lowest level of the social, and shows a kind of"natural" quality which is different from the "mysterious".The next three chapter, they focus on similarities and differencesbetween literary characteristics. On the drama language style, Noh reflecta style of elegance which conforms to the aesthetic standard ofaristocratic stratum. On the contrary, Yuan drama language is suit bothrefined and popular tastes. On the dramatic conflicts, Noh try todownplay the conflict by various methods, but Yuan drama focus on theconflict specially. On female image shaping, the female lead in Nohalways express the miss and hidden bitterness to her lover. It causes theaudience’s sympathy and compassion. While Yuan drama praises to the underlying female’s rebellion consciousness and fighting spirit, andreflects the awakening of female consciousness of independence.
