The paper classifies the shape of the chicken kettle and establishes a complete criterion. Then divide the periods on it and build age sequence. After these, study the chicken kettle’s feature in the spatial distribution comprehensively. Meanwhile, analyze the distribution of the chicken kettle and summarize the characteristics. Finally, it reveals the process of chicken kettle which prospers twice in the300years of Wei and Jin southern and northern dynasty over Yangtze River and Huang River and begins to decline since Sui Dynasty, and discuss the origin and the reason why it declines.The paper is divided into six parts:The first part is the introduction. It mainly defines the contents and scope of the study, expounds the reasons for choosing the topic, and it also includes a summary of the achievements.The second part is the typological analysis of chicken kettle. According to the difference of the chicken kettle’s neck, it is divided into two types, A and B. According to the difference of the belly, type A is divided into four subtypes. And type B is divided into two subtypes. Then summarize the development of each type of chicken kettle.The third part talks about the chronology of the chicken kettle. While dating the age of the chicken kettles, it bases on the tombs that have clear date and the analysis of the original’s reference. It can be divided into6periods. The first is the Middle Eastern Wu State to Late western Jin Dynasty State which is the newly established state. The second is the Eastern Jin Dynasty State which is the boom period. The Song and Qi period of Southern Dynasty is the sustained development period. The Liang of Tthe Southern Dynasty and Late Northern Wei of The Northern Dynasties is the turning point. The Northern Qi Dynasty and the Northern Zhou Dynasty period is the second boom period. The Late Northern Zhou Dynasty to Sui Dynasty is the gradually fading period.The fourth part focuses on the spatial distribution and regional characteristics of the chicken kettle. On the basis of chronology, the thesis investigates the distribution of the chicken kettles in each period, analyzes the reasons of the differences about each period while combining with the social background. And study the exchange and the time in the perspective of chicken kettle. According to the characteristics of the chicken kettle, it can be divided into five regions. They are respectively the lower reaches of the Yangtze River Region, the middle reaches of the Yangtze River Region, the Three Gorges Area, Fujian and Guangdong area and the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River region. Here discusses the glaze characteristics, Kiln inference, impact on the surrounding area, assault, exchange and use for reference problems in each region.The fifth part is the discussion on the origin and the decline of the chicken kettle. This paper considers that the chicken kettle origins from the straight mouth can of the Three Kingdoms period and the Eastern Han Dynasty since the development of the arts to heap. But it is not saying that the chicken kettle origins from handicap kettle, it only because this statement does not discuss it from the source. The author analyzes the reasons of the decline after Sui Dynasty in two aspects, one is the transformation of being shuanglong handle pot, the other is due to the highly development of the social economy of Tang Dynasty which changes people’s minds. In all sorts of factors, the chicken kettle which is popular more than300years finally declines and quits the stage of history.The sixth part is the conclusion which summarizes the thesis.
