Research On The Japanese Suffix Character"的"

In the course of Japanese learning with Chinese as mother tone,we should know better about the positive and negative transfer phenomena. If little attention is paid to such phenomena, we are apt to make improper use of phrases and verbs which seem to be much alike. For example, native Japanese use "勉强" to express the willingness of improving or learning, while in Chinese the phrase means reluctantly or barely.The most commonly used verb in both Chinese and Japanese,"的",is another case that I notice in daily life and study, which excites my interest and further sparks my passion of exploring this field. Due to the definite similarity in shape, Japanese learners from China misuse that term now and then, including me.This essay is composed of three sections.Section1figures out the subtle role that "的"plays in Chinese and Japanese. Relations between China and Japan have a long history, so does the intercourse of Chinese characters. In this section, I give further discussion about the historical connection of the Chinese character in two cultures first, then their corresponding relationship by using corpus.Section2elaborates the transition of this character from two aspects, including changes of the use situation in Japanese, as well as variations of its meaning.Section3is based upon collected cases of misuses of the term by Japanese learners from China. I sort and classify the misuse situations first, then the youth idioms relating to this specific Japanese suffix character. Lastly, I made some explorations how to avoid misusing such kind of words.The following points are made clear through comprehensive discourses.First, Japanese does not borrow the suffix word,"的",from Chinese nidirectionally. In other words, the intercourse of these two languages is mutual and bi-directional.Anyhow, new usages generated in Japanese didn’t root in Chinese due to various reasons.Secondly,"的" is used as suffix of a noun to form an adjective in Japanese generally, which contributes to make up for the shortages that Japanese is insufficient in adjectives in some way.On the other hand, it is criticised by some scholars for the overuse and ambiguity. For Japanese learners, the criticism is considerably instructive.Thirdly,the usage of this suffix word is more than it seems. The deeper you dig,the more difficult it becomes. As the misuse of "的"is a rather commonplace, there are many problems in Japanese learners of Native Chinese. This essay summarizes these misuse cases and draws conclusions, so as to help to make a significant difference.Lastly, we can form the summary from the transition that the way it is used is not always static and immutable. Rather, not only its usages but also its meanings have changed considerably. As far as social evolution and passage of time are concerned, this tendency will never cease. Consequently, this suffix word is still worthy of investigation in future.This essay undertakes researches of the subtle role that "的"plays in Chinese and Japanese tracing back to history,and makes some explorations finding out the reason and how to avoid misusing such kind of words.
