On the tense and aspect system studies in modern Chinese, the study of "Guo2"(“过2”)are far less than the studies of" Le "(了)and " Zhe "(着),so we need further study on "Guo2". This dissertation draws on the cognitive model to study "Guo2", mainly Focusing on two issues:the semantic meanings and the basic types of"Guo2".Chapter I,this chapter reviews the Western scholars in the aspect theory to make a brief summary, and also summarise the Chinese studies. First, introduce the studies of Comrie (1976), Smith (1991), Bybee, Perkins&Pagliuea (1994). Second, the studies on the Experiential and "Guo2",introducing the study of Dahl (1985) as well as the Chinese studies. Third, as an overview of previous research, we think the greatest achievement is to clarify the basic nature of "Guo2", in spite of some problems.Chapter II, the basic types of "Guo2"and "Guo1". Section I, specifically enumerates the various meanings of "Guo", and between the various meanings theoretical explanation of the derivative relationship.Section II, from the theory of markedness perspective, this dissertation proves that in modern Chinese,"Guo1" and"Guo2"both have past tense meaning, and that"Guol" is marked as well as "Guo2" is unmarked. Section III, the semantic/cognitive explanation. Section IV discusses the historical evolution and the Children’s acquisition process.Chapter III, mainly study on the semantic content of "Guo2", as well as the cognitive limitations. Section I, the"Repeatability", including:the relationship between the Repeatability and Experiential. We propose a new view:"Guo2"is restricted by the Repeatability. Section II, the effect of the "change" nature of entity and events on Repeatability. Section III,the Change Argument, divided into:patient (narrow sense), materials, the results and the principal. SectionIV,Unchanged Argument, including Background Argument (premises, path, way, beneficiaries, purpose, reason, scope), the object and content, resulting in things. Section V, the Complex Argument:things, agent, mental activity, cognitive perception tool endpoint and source point. Section VI, the Event Argument, divided into:the momentum, the amount of physical change, the time domain. SectionVII, the effect of the "digital" nature of entities and events on the Repetitive, divided into three parts:the possible plural; unfixed and fixed, plural and momentum.
