The Expression And Mark Of The Plural Form Of Modern Chinese Nouns

The concept of "number" existed in any kind of languages around the word. This thesis based on the expression of number of noun in Chinese, focus on the "N+men".We discuss the plural markers "men"in contemporary Chinese and try to find out the different situation with"men" and without "men"by the syntax analyze, semantics description and pragmatics explanations. In order to direct the teaching methods in teaching Chinese as foreign language, we penetrate into the research of number expressions and related questions in contemporary Chinese.The whole thesis is divided into five parts:The first part is explaining the reason why we choose this topic, the aim and the meaning of this thesis, defining the object of study, research goals, ideas and methods, and sources of materials. Then,review the articles about number research. Under the guidance of generalized form and methodology of typology, try to re-understanding of number in contemporary Chinese.The second part is focus on the research of "men".First of all, review the major researches on "N+men". Secondly, the in-depth analysis of the "N+men" features.Such as the animocy of "N", the types of "N" and the different situation of "men" attached "N". At last, from the vocabulary, syntax and pragmatics levels, compared with the term "men" and "-s", try to confirms the nature of "men" as a Plural marker.The third part is mainly research the coexist of "men" and amount system. After summing up the amount system of expressions of number, we discuss the situation when the "men" and the Pre-planned structure are not coexist and make an explanation.The fourth section is focus on the analyze of plural mark "men".It is divided into three situations. Both present or not, inclined to be present, inclined to not be present. Then, we explaining the factors restrict the presentation of "men",The fifth part is the discuss about number tag in typology.Try to find out the mandatory and optional of plural mark in Chinese, and analyze the quantifier mark and plural mark in contemporary Chinese.
