In recent years, with the rapid development of teaching Chinese as a foreignlanguage(TCFL), teaching Chinese character to foreigners(TCCF), as an importantcomponent of TCFL, has been paid more attention by many experts and scholars. Now,thereare a large number of research and discussion on TCCF issues, TCCF has been paid fullattention in theory, but there are still a lot of problems in the process of teaching. Chinesecharacter teaching continues to be difficult to overseas students when they are learningChinese. In this paper, we take part of the overseas students as respondent, who study in theCollege of International Cultural Exchange of Hebei Normal University, and survey theirattitudes towards Chinese character learning, the learning ways what they chose, Chinesecharacters application in daily life, and the difficulties in Chinese character learning, etc. Wetry to find out the problems in the process of Chinese character acquisition, and makingpractical recommendations for TCCF.The introduction part provides the purpose and significance of this research, analyzes thepresent situation of Chinese character learning and teaching of TCCF, and details therespondent, questionnaire design, implementation and the methods of this research.Chapter II mainly provides the processing and analysis of data. Full chapter is dividedinto five sections. The first section is processing the data of attitude toward Chinese characterlearning, comparing the students’ attitudes between the "Chinese characters" and"non-Chinese" national students after analyzing one the overall situation; the second section isthe investigation of Chinese character learning method and its application; the third sectiontests students’ knowledge of Chinese characters, analyzes consolidated on each part, and thencompares the students’ scores between the "circle of Chinese characters" and "non-Chinese";the fourth section lists students’ proposals. Finally, we summarized the results above:(1) Moststudents agree that the learning of Chinese characters is very important, and said he likesChinese characters. And students who are from "Non-Chinese" State prefer Chinesecharacters;(2) Most students agree that it’s difficult to learn Chinese characters,"Chinesecharacter" national student’s greatest difficult is to distinguish Homograph, and "Non-Chinese" national student’s biggest difficulty is "the pronunciation";(3) Overseasstudents learn Chinese characters in the classroom, and some students use Chinese charactersto take notes;(4) Most of the students proactive review Chinese characters after class, andbrowse Chinese Web site, electronic equipment as their learning tool;(5) Students memoryChinese characters by constantly watching and reading;(6) Students who are from "Chinesecharacter" state learn the knowledge of Chinese characters better, but on the whole, students’score about knowledge of Chinese characters generally poor;(7) Most students believeChinese characters and Chinese should be taught together, and they hope that when a teacherteach Chinese characters, start by speaking pronunciation, meaning, and show strokes ofstrokes of Chinese characters.Chapter III analyzes the present situation of TCCF in China, points out the existingproblems, and a number of recommendations about teachers and teaching materials are madeon the basis of the foregoing.To teachers:(1) Teachers should know the own characteristics of Chinese characters, andanalyze students’ actual situation. Predicting their difficulties in the acquisition of Chinesecharacters, then selecting effective teaching methods;(2) Teachers should explain the correctstrokes of strokes;(3) Designing and adopting flexible teaching method in the teachingactivities;(4) Making a good combination of multimedia teaching and traditional teaching.To teaching materials:(1) Should be independent of the other teaching materials, thenumber of Chinese characters should be scientific and reasonable;(2) Content should bepractical, interesting and interim, exercise should be adequate and effective.Finally, in the conclusion section summed up the main content of this paper, and pointsout the shortages.
