Effect Of Black And White On Aesthetic Principles In The Graphic Design

Black and white as distinct artistic expression form, are used in various fields in art. This paper longitudinally gives the overview and explanation, ranged from the recognition of ancient black and white philosophy to the development of modern aesthetics, and laterally takes the aesthetic research of black and white in the planar design as main clue, together with the application of them in related area such as painting, photography, costume designing etc., to rationally analyze people’s visual and psychological perception.This essay consists of five chapters, the first one is preface, mainly introduces the basis and research meaning of this theme. Chapter two analyses the definition of ancient black and white philosophy, the application of it in modern designing and the aesthetic principles. Part three shows the research presence of black and white in artistic field from the view of visual language, nature of culture and psychological demand. Volume four discusses the black and white in traditional culture, making a conclusion of the times feature. The last part principally researches the practice of black and white in planar design, concluding the different way of its expression.By exploring the application of black and white in planar design, this thesis aims at bringing forward the improvement in China’s planar design, thus it has a more significant and international development trend.
