The revolution of artistic design experienced modernism, postmodernism and then to today, variousideological trends in design. Designers never stop struggling to work in a more scientific, more natural andmore humanistic way. The goal of graphic designers is to achieve a balanced visual space. This specific erablooms the design style of“Minimalism”, which delivers information efficiently and effectively, andbecomes a fashionable approach in graphic design.Blank-leaving expresses the idea of “less is more”. Design is mysterious and charming for its intrinsicabundance and extrinsic nihility,which corresponds to the traditional cultural spirit and artistic connotationin China. Designers actively seek the spirit from Chinese traditional art and find the particular expressionaltechnique of “Blank-leaving” in Chinese traditional painting. Through blank-leaving, designers can conveyrich information by a relatively concise way to the audience, thus achieving a better artistic effect.As a unique visual aesthetic form, blank-leaving not only sublimates the aesthetic conception, but alsoproduces a variety of formalized aesthetic perceptions. It expresses the real meaning of shapes, elicitsdesigners’inner feelings, lead the new ideas of design, creates the new visual images, and reflects the visualpsychology which is unreachable by conventional solid form. It is highly valued in creating the artisticconception of works, providing the space for imagination, relaxing the visual perception and reflecting therule of “less is more”. The utilization of blank-leaving marks the maturity of the design and will definitelybecome a significant technique in graphic design.
