The emphasis of the study of translation has been laid on the correspondence of works, meaning and function, without investigating the relations in and out of the "discourse". So not only the interrelations of the relevant elements but the impacts brought were totally ignored. Such single-dimensional studies and micro-analysis take the words and the sentences, instead of the discourse, as their priority. While the micro-comparison is concerned, the macro-analysis about the pragmatics seems to be weakened. Undoubtedly, owing to the narrow view, quite a number of problems remain unsolved, though some are finished.Coherence works as the "communicator" connecting the different elements within the discourse and the "bridge" reaching the social culture out of the discourse. Therefore, the translator should understand and grasp the "pragmatic coherence" before producing the coherent translation. As any communication can only take place in a certain context, the discourse can also be decoded in a reasonable way when building relations with the certain context. The discourse discussed in this paper is comprised of the context in the discourse, and the cultural context. We hope to restructure the reasonable coherence among the elements which seem to lack of connections between each other, with the aid of pragmatics. Avoiding the traditional way of teaching translation which only pays much attention to the words and the sentences, we try to study translation on the basis of understanding the influence of the pragmatic elements to the coherence in the multi-dimensional context. Besides, the effective measures should be worked out so that we might help the learners to establish their own conscience of "coherence" so that the locutionary meaning and illocutionary meaning can be acquired. In this paper, the teaching of translation is divided into two categories:TTBS, that is, teaching of translation as a basic skill; and TTPS, that is, teaching of translation as a test of language proficiency, by doing so, it becomes more specific for us to make out the corresponding teaching method with a view to produce expected results. In light that the discourse linguistics always takes the literary output as its object, the analysis and restructuring of the coherence in the translation of the English novels. The examples cited in the paper originate from the classic works, as Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice, Ulysses, Wuthering Heights, together with different versions of Chinese translations. In order to protect the privacy of the translators, their names have been replaced by those of the publishing houses.
