As the economic and trade development of China, especially it joined the World Trade Organization, the quality requirements of a variety of professional and technical talents are also gradually increasing. Therefore, as to vocational students, they not only have professional, ideological and moral, and good psychological qualities, but also have the quality of international contacts which is mainly reflected in a higher level of foreign language, especially a higher level of English Language.Today, English has become one of working languages of the world,it is the main tool of international communications, and also an important means of entering the Western world. There will be more enterprises to enter international markets in China, therefore, China will also bring in more modern science and technology and foreign-funded enterprises. Therefore, it requires us to have more high-quality skilled talents with high English proficiency ability, it is particularly important for the vocational schools’ students to learn English.However, higher non-English vocational college students’ English foundation is very bad, The English learning time in class is limited, the effect of language learning isn’t ideal. Therefore, there are some problems in learning English, such as:learning foundation is weak; Learning motivation is fuzzy; Learning attitude is passive; learning interest is deficient; the awareness of autonomous learning is poor. Through the survey, we find out the reasons which cause students’ existing problems of English learning. There are two major factors, subjective factors and objective factors, Subjective factors include:the students lack of language elementary knowledge; the psychological barrier exists in English learning; they are not good at studying English learning methods; They don’t have good English learning habits, etc. The objective factors concentrated reflect in:the higher vocational colleges’ matriculate are complicated; they lack of necessary language environment; the teaching contents isn’t interesting and hard to stimulate students’ interest in study; the teaching methods lack of vocational education features, etc. I took a variety of the countermeasures to deal with the existing English learning problems on higher vocational students including strengthening basic training of higher non-vocational students;to rich contents of higher vocational English classes in order to stimulate the student s’learning interest; to use the multi-level teaching model in order to build higher vocational students’ English learning self-confidence; to stand out the professional characteristics in the higher vocational English class; to guide them to master the correct methods of learning, and improve the learning efficiency; to improve the students’ autonomous learning ability, etc. The major objective of this article is to pay attention to the cultivation of students’ autonomous learning ability and English application abilities through research, and try to combine the English teaching with their professional so that we can foster the higher vocational talents which adapt to market demand.
