This paper looks at the route to western China as a aspecial background of Frontier Poems of the Tang Dynasty and believes that the investigation into the route to western China will provide a history background and a new view for our interpretation to Frontier Poems of the Tang Dynasty. Specifically, there are three chapters:The first chapter discusses two strategic passes-Yang pass ang Yumen Pass on the route to western China.The second chapter studies the change of the route to western China from the Han Dynasty to the Tang Dynasty and draw a conclusion to the process how North Road and South Road in Han Shu become five routes under the influence of the natural environment and the history background.The third chapter is about the relationship between Frontier Poems of the Tang Dynasty and the route to western China. It studies Cen Shen,one of the most representative Frontier Poets in Tang Dynasty and all his Frontier Poems to get a specific route to western China. Cen Shen’route to western China specificly goes by Changan,Longshan,Weizhou,Jincheng,Wuwei,Jiuquan,Dunhuang,DesertMoheyan,Yi zhou,Puchang,Yinshanqi,Yanqi,Tiemenguan,Qiuci. Besides,this chapter also studies the speciality and history background of Western China that we get from Cen Shen’ Frontier Poems.
