In field work, the author finds that some discourse translations of scenic spots in Beijing are not satisfactory, some of which focus on literal equivalence and enhance loyalty to the source texts, neither conforming to the specialty of tourism texts, nor transferring effective information. Therefore, the expected functions, namely introducing China effectively and attracting foreign visitors, are difficult to achieve, impeding the widespread of Chinese culture and China’s tourism development in the world market. Therefore, in order to improve the discourse translations of scenic spots in Beijing, the author, guided by German Functionalist translation theory, analyzed some discourse translations of eight major scenic spots in Beijing, pointing out that translators should utilize various translation skills, say addition, explanation, interpretation, deletion, analogy and compilation to achieve the expected functions of discourse translations of scenic spots.
