The Application Of Mode Elements In"Farewell To The Dream"

"Farewell to the Dream" was created by Professor Gao Weijie in1991for one Chinese bamboo flute and the western orchestra. In this work, the composer uses one atonal technique of modern music. At the same time, the pentatonic-mode element is embedded in different musical structure of the work with hidden or obvious ways. It constitutes the horizontal melody and longitudinal harmony of this work and highlights the personal style and ethnic characteristics.The article is divided into four chapters, in which the application of mode elements in different musical structures is analyzed separately with detailed examples. The first chapter falls into two sections, which separately describes the relevant information of Professor Gao Weijie and his works, gives the readers a brief descriptions of the composer and this musical work. The second chapter divides the musical structure of this work, and provides the preconditions for the subsequent analysis. Mode elements and its related issues are described in chapter three. The fourth chapter is with four sections, which separately discusses the way of using the mode elements in the introduction, the refrain, the episode one, the episode two and coda of this work.
