The thesis mainly focuses on the background of anti-westernization, and discussesthe content, emergence and assessment. I hope to better understand the westernizationand the intellectual history in modern China through this research.The thesis illustrates the background, content, reasons, characteristics andinfluences of the anti-westernization thoughts and is divided into the followingseveral parts. First of all, the introduction mainly discusses the meaning of thisresearch, bibliography, current academic research and the innovation of this area. Thetext part has three chapters. The first chapter discusses the background ofanti-westernization, which contains three subsections, the emergence anddevelopment of westernization thoughts, the emergence and development ofwesternization movement and the emergence of conservatives. The second chapter asthe key point mainly discusses the specific content of anti-westernization, on the onehand, stands against the application of some new technologies, including farming andweaving with machine, mining with machine, build railway and modern weapons, onthe other hand, the objection to train advanced government stuff with westerneducation. The third chapter analyzes causes of anti-westernization from history andreality. From the view of history, the phenomenon was caused by traditional thoughts,imperial examination system and long-term self-fettered policy. As to reality, thereasons were the culture self-defense attitude, the deficit of government treasury andthe little achevement of westernization movement. The forth chapter mainly evaluatesthe westernization from the characteristics and influences. Westernization based onthe situation of China, and serves the people. As to the influences of anti-westernization, this thesis believes that theanti-westernization hinders the development of the westernization, but promotes theestablishment of western thoughts in China.
