Daiziping site is located in the central area of Hunan with the distinct feature of diversified cultural landscapes. However, being not receiving sufficient attention for a long time, the cultural nature and periodization of this site are still not identified clearly, resulting in vague cultural development path of this region. Based on re-periodization of Daiziping site, combining with the relevant sites of Qujialing culture, Shijiahe Culture, Fanchengdui Culture and Liangzhu Culture in the middle and downstream of Yangtze River, this paper sorts and organizes the sources of these cultures, based on which the distribution features of tombs and pottery cultures are studied. The whole paper consists of six parts:Part1:introduction. This part briefly describes the discovery and excavation of Daiziping site, summarizes the research results in the present academic circles, and points out the research directions and focuses at the present stage.Part2, tombs and pottery chronicle as well as site periodization. First of all, information about Daiziping Site Period1in the report was sorted and organized. Different cultural layers and tombs are classified into two groups. Then from the perspective of layer relations, chronological sequence of burial pottery was established according to the changes in shapes and structures of burial accessories based on co-existence relation. Upon the previous research, Daiziping sites were classified into five periods, the general year range of which were identified as per the combinations, shapes and structures of potteries.Part3, relation between the natures of the sites and the surrounding archaeological cultures at different periods. Based on a comprehensive consideration of the published archaeological documents and researches on the surrounding area, through comparative analysis of cultural factors, the pedigree of Daiziping site from period1to5is sorted. It is argued in this research that period1of Daiziping site mainly consisted of two factors:local culture and Fanchengdui culture; in period2, Qujialing and Liangzhu Culture prevailed; and from period3to5, Shijiahe Culture developed in this site and can be called as Daiziping-style Shijiahe Culture. The culture in period3was mainly influenced by Dongting Lake coastal region, and periods4and5by mainly by the central area of Shijiahe culture from Handong area. Cultures in from period1to3were mainly substitutive and from3to5are inherited. The cross-shape passageway of Xiangjiang River, and Lushui-Lianshui River was the trunk way of the cultural communication there.Part4, Distribution law of tombs and observation of pottery distribution. In combination with the distribution features at each period, the general distribution mode of the whole tomb can be concluded as west to east, yet such law was broken in Period4. After analysis of pottery-related cultural factors, the concentration and decentralization of cultural factors at each period are discussed. Through analysis of the distribution of pottery quantities, the burial accessories at each period revealed a loose cluster phenomenon.Part5, preliminary comparison with the neighborhood burial custom. After summary of the cremation-based inhumation in Ganbo Plain, Dongting Lake coastal area and East area of Guangdong, a simple comparison was made with the shape and structure of tombs and burial accessories in Daiziping site. It has been concluded that the source of the cremation-based inhumation in Daiziping is still uncertain. It might be originated locally or influenced by Fanchengdui culture.Part6, conclusion. In this part, views in the paper are concluded.
