Poly-translation theory is occurred with the development of people’s view andtranslation itself. Translation study is put in a much wider and complex environmentnowadays. Scholars at home and abroad advocate the diversity of translation and put forwardtheir own translation theories and methods. The diversity of the translation versions providesa multi-angle illumination space and therefore an original text with many other translationversions is possible. However, the view of traditional translation praises highly of the entireequivalence to the original and measure the quality of translation version in this way.Lefevere’s rewriting theory can be called as a brand new theory in the poly system oftoday’s translation. The involving elements are many and different aspects will form differentilluminations. He pointed out that no matter what form of translation is a rewriting of theoriginal, rewriting is restricted by some certain ideology, poetics and patronage. Therefore itprovides a new method and theoretical support for our study of translation rewriting.Taking Yang Bi’s version of Vanity Fair as an example, this thesis analyses itsfour-character-pattern, make a supportive attitude to her application language feature and herrewriting to the original text. The quotation of Lefevere’s rewriting theory provides thetranslation method of rewriting a theoretical support. There are in total five parts in this thesis. The first part introduces us the thesis’ researchbackground, data, importance and its structure arrangement. The second provides the theorysupport, introduces Lefevere’s rewriting theory, the relationship between rewriting andtranslation and rewriting theory in the application in Yang Bi’s version of Vanity Fair. Thethird part introduces the background of the selected Yang Bi’s version of Vanity Fair and herfour-character-pattern in the translation as a language feature. The fourth part is the main partof the paper. The author contrasts and analyses the four-character-pattern from three aspectsof linguistic functions. They are expressive function, evocative function of language and the add and reduce of the words in translation. Through this, the necessity and feasibility ofrewriting in literature translation is identified both in theory and examples. Thus Yang Bi’sapplied language feature and her rewriting can be affirmed.
