Along with the development of translation studies, various disciplines are blendedinto translation studies so as to provide new perspective for translation studies.Narratology is now connected with translation studies. Studies on narratology have beendivided into those of classical narrative and post-classical narrative, which at home isrepresented by scholar Shen Dan. But when it comes to connecting translation studieswith narratology, it goes no further than the connection between narrative perspective,narrative distance and translation. As the study of “general narrative” draws attention,Mona Baker holds that narrative is dynamic, which makes it possible to connectnarrative with translation studies.This thesis firstly is conducted to probe the trilateral relationship amongtranslation, narrative and power discourse theoretically from the perspective of narrativeaccount of translation studies. The conclusion is drawn that translation as kind ofnarration which is influenced by power discourse participants in narrating andconstructing new realities. In other words, translation is renarration. And then detailedanalysis will be given that Zhang Guruo adopted temporal and spatial strategy, repositioned all kinds of parameter in the source narrative by concentrating onmodernism from selecting materials to language expression. Besides, dialects, classicalliterary Chinese and paratexts adopted in his translation helped to reposition therelationship among the original writer, readers and translator. This thesis dwells uponfeasibility and validity of applying narrative theory to translation studies under Chinesecontext by analyzing case study of Zhang Guruo’s translations.
