Research On Acculturation Of Chinese Americans In The United States Between1990to2000

Chinese Americans now play an increasingly important role in American society.From the middle of the nineteenth century, the first batch of Chinese as laborimmigrating to the United States, to more Chinese professionals immigrants toAmerica now，Chinese Americans have faced the collision and assimilation ofeastern and western civilization at the same time. Acculturation problem thereforebecomes the important problem facing Chinese. The author takes Chinese Americans(from1990to2000) as the research object and analyzes the problem from two aspectsof acculturation. The author uses identity and life style to analyze today’s ChineseAmericans’ new problems: polarization of cultural assimilation. And the main factorcausing this problem is the difference of cultural value: collectivism andindividualism.This research has important practical significance. It not only emphasizes thenew problems facing the Chinese in America today through the analysis of the causesand effects. It is still of referential meaning for Chinese Americans’ overalldevelopment in the mainstream American society in the future.
