| Polarization has been a salient feature of American politics.Since the establishment of American bipartisan system,polarized politics has rapidly developed due to growing divisions between the two parties,and “Trumpism,” which advocates extremist views such as white supremacy,has further complicated American political polarization.Although Biden adopted relatively moderate policies to “rebuild” the country,severe pressures from Republicans and some Democrats have by far prevented him from advancing his domestic policies.Using historical analysis and data analysis,this thesis reviews the history,causes and influence of American political polarization,and examines the reasons why Biden cannot ameliorate the badly polarized situation.It holds that political polarization in the United States has been caused by various factors and has negatively impacted the country in many aspects.Instead of easing off during the Biden administration,it is being deepened by the existence of vetocracy and internal ideological heterogeneity.With the possible resurgence of “Trumpism” after the 2024 presidential election,political polarization might further divide American society if the government does not take effective measures to tackle the current situation. |
