As a famous poet in Modern China,Most of Li Xisheng’s poems are preserved in theYan Ying Zhai Shi Cun.He was born in the1864and died in1905when he was forty-twoyears old.Face the situation of "internal revolt and foreign invasion" in Late Qing, LiXisheng had hoped to achieve national prosperity through the reform.But his bureaucraticroad is not smooth.He never get promoted and he was in the middle age when he died.Inthe last five years of his life,all of his hopes were destroyed and he began to write poetrywhich he never pay attention to it before that.His poems express a profound sentimentabout the future of the country and his own destiny.The amount of his poetry is not much,but they have a unique style:His poetry is full of sentimental atmosphere and the sentencesare well structured.So he was regarded as an important poet in the poetry circles.At present, there is little research on Li Xisheng’s life experiences and his poetry.Infact, as a "dazzling meteor" in the late Qing Dynasty poetry,Li Xisheng’s poetics andpoetry are characteristics.He was not blind pursuit of poetic trend and did not belong to anyschool of poetry.He got the advantages of others and used them to improve his ownpoetry.Finally he formed his own unique style.Based on Yan Ying Zhai Shi Cun,this articleconsiders taht "Know a man,know his times first" and focuses on discussing Li Xisheng’slife, thought, poetry, poetics and poetry artistic characteristics combining with the specialsocial and historical background in the Late Qing Dynasty and previous research results.
