Study On The Relationship Between Xu Shuzheng And The Tongcheng School

Xu Shuzheng is a famous political and military figure in beiyang period of the republic of China. Recent researches about Xu Shuzheng focused mainly on political and military aspects but rarely on cultural study, especially the relationship between he and The TongCheng School. The study of relationship between Xu Shuzheng and The TongCheng School not only enriches research on Xu Shuzheng but also demonstrates the developmental status of The TongCheng School. This dissertation is composed of three sections, the introduction of text、main body and conclusion. The introduction discusses the research purpose and meaning. By reviewing the academic research on Xu Shuzheng and The TongCheng School, we can find the shortage of study on the relationship between Xu Shuzheng and The TongCheng School and think the study can be deepen more. Body part consists of three chapters. The first chapter, mainly introduces the general situation of Xu Shuzheng’s association with TongCheng School’s famous characters and his position in TongCheng School’s inherited venation. Xu Shuzheng is closely related to people such as Ma Jichang Yao Yonggai Lin shu Zhang jian etc. From the perspective of link between teachers and students,those people can be traced back to Yao Nai mostly. The second chapter, mainly analyses the academic relationship between Xu Shuzheng and The TongCheng School, which presents both inheritance and breakthrough of TongCheng School. He newly collated Yao Nai’s ’Ancient Llanguage Class Code’ to make it more perfect.In literature, he opposes denominationalism of ’parallel, scatter’ and advocates absorbing advantages of every party. The third chapter, mainly discusses the relationship between Xu Shuzheng’s classic thoughts and TongCheng School’s classic thoughts.By combing TongCheng School’s classic thoughts,the essay analyses Xu Shuzheng’s inheritance of those ideas. Research scope mainly focuses on the political、military、cultural and educational conceptions. Conclusion part, summarizes the full text and simplely discusses cultural conservatism existed in Xu Shuzheng and The TongCheng School from the perspective of intellectual history.
