The Sublimation Of Historic Materialism

As one of Marx’s two famous theory, the theory of historical materialism has undergone a gradual development process since1840s. In the end of Marx’s life, his study of anthropology and history further enriched and deepened the theory of historical materialism, and it can be reflected in two of his famous notes, which were "Anthropology notes" and "Notes of history". From the aspects of methodology of historiography research, social development theory and the theory of world history, this essay will combine these two notes and analyze how these two notes make the significant impact on the theory of historical materialism and to reveal the two notes’theoretical value and practical importance. This essay is divided into five components.The first part will mainly review the general summary of "Anthropology notes" and "Notes of history", which involves the main content, writing motivation, writing time, writing background and so on. Besides, this part will focus on internal relation between "Anthropology notes" and "Notes of history" In the aspect of writing time, there is continuity between these two notes. In the aspect of writing motivation, there is consistency between these two notes. In the aspect of content, there are complementarity, commonality and same deep insights between these two notes. In the aspect of methods of research, empirical study was been used in both "Anthropology notes" and "Notes of history".The second part will focus on the new use of empirical study in both "Anthropology notes" and "Notes of history". By analyzing two methods of Marx’s history study:logic method and empirical method, it can be demonstrated scientificalness of these two methods in Marx’s history study and complementary relationship between these two methods. In the early stage of history study, Marx focus on the use of logic method. However, in both "Anthropology notes" and "Notes of history", Marx focus on the use of empirical study. It can be reflected the new research method in Marx’s history study, which is from focusing on logic method to focusing on empirical method. The third part will focus on the theoretical research of social development in "Anthropology notes" and "Notes of history". This research can be completed by reviewing Marx’s theory on the evolution of social formation and Marx’s theory of historical skipping in "Anthropology notes" and "Notes of history". By combining the early and middle stage of both Marx’s theory on the evolution of social formation and Marx’s theory of historical skipping, this part will analyze the significant impact that "Anthropology notes" and "Notes of history" have made on the evolution of social formation and Marx’s theory of historical skipping, to demonstrate these two famous notes has deepened the the theoretical research of social development.The fourth part will mainly talk about Marx’s theory on world history of the theory of historical materialism has been developed by the "Anthropology notes" and "Notes of history". This section, by explaining the theory of world history in these two notes, will discuss about the dimensionality of the history in the world space and time in these two notes, as well as expound the significant impact that two notes have already made on Marx’s theory on world history.The fifth part is conclusion and revelation. In this part, based on the research of the above several parts, writer mainly discussed the significance of Marx’s "Anthropology notes" and "Notes of history", which mainly included both theoretical value and practical importance. In the aspect of theoretical importance, they further enriched and deepened the theory of historical materialism. In the aspect of practical importance, they are very positive to build socialism with Chinese characteristics and reform and opening policies in the the background of globalization.
