In1980s and1990s of last century, the emigrant writers from Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan are the main creative group of new Chinese Emigrants Literature in North America. With their own unique life experience, they created a large number of works of much significance, which involves all aspects of the image of China. By picking up some typical ones of them as the target for discussion, this dissertation will analyze the image of China presenting by their works. This paper will discuss in the order as follow:Firstly, a brief description of emigrants, who moves from one country or region to another country or region to live, though the definition of emigrant has always been rich, the discomfort and unfamiliarness caused by emigration remain the same. Chinese emigrants, moving to North America, has a long history. The demand for exchange of labor and money hit it off, which makes early labor emigration endless. This long emigration contains too much injustice and discrimination, it’s not until1960s it gradually moves towards relatively equal situation, which laid a foundation for the migration of new immigrants of Chinese writer to North America. Afterwards, North American new immigrants of Chinese Literature step by step march towards prosperity, presenting the richness of the image of China for us.Secondly, it focuses on the Chinese symbols showing by the new immigrants writers in North America, specifically addressing this issue from perspective of San guests, new immigrants, Chinatown. As it put:San guests, by virtue of hard work and indomitable spirit living in the bottom of the North American continent, are the symbolic image of Chinese abroad, who’s wit, hard-working, think of returning home. Unlike San guests who’s forced to leave home due to a living, new immigrants in order to pursue more freely, individualized living space, they actively choose to go abroad, suffered a huge change of identity, living environment, and they become double-edge man both in material and spirit. The Chinatown as the symbol of traditional Chinese culture abroad bears the collective imagination of hometown of Chinese immigrants, and passes on the ancient traditional culture of China. However, for the descendants of immigrants, Chinatown is the invisible barrier to their integration into the society of North America. Then, from their homes, family, material and spiritual level we discuss the construction of the image of China. The building is material entity of home, and new immigrant writers project their attachment to the home and the memories onto the concrete buildings. The building as a place to carry the memory of the home recurs in the works by new immigrants of Chinese in North America. New-immigrant-writers in North America write hometown water, build a poetic hometown. Mother-river is a vital part of the home, and nobody can survive without mother-river. They are the indispensable role of the Chinese people about the family history of the rise and fall of development, and quietly flowing water has turned from the geographical coordinates of the entity into thoughts and mood aroused by home obsession. The family system is the most basic forms of social organization in China, and it has a profound influence on the development of Chinese society and every individual. It is the spiritual source that shapes individuals and writing about family is the means of spirit reversion for new immigrant writers. Therefore home and family are of rich connotation, and it presents a unique image of China. The last part tells about history of China-the Cultural Revolution and the current reality state, which they care about. Their concerns on history and reality of China essentially are concerns about where China would move towards. They cannot completely cut off the connections with the mother country after their emigration, but in this distance, they are more objective and dispassionate as they present the image of China.
