North America new immigration literature is the novel-oriented Chinese literaryworks which is written by the Chinese new immigrants in overseas who have immigratedfrom Chinese mainland to the other countries after the reform and opening-up policy in1970’s. In this paper, the creation of west “The Other” image and the construction ofChinese “Selfhood” image are taken as the pointcut to investigate the transnationalwriting of North America new immigration literature through the literature works of YanGeling, Zhang Ling, Zha Jianying, Tang Ying and Chen Danyan.Firstly, the generation and significance of the North America new immigrationliterature are investigated basing on new immigration literature in the introduction part ofthis paper. In the fist step, we define the concept of the North America new immigrationliterature and then summarize the difference between North America new immigrationliterature and traditional immigrant literature. As a part of the contemporary Chineseliterature, the new features of North America new immigration literature differ from themainland literature are interpreted at last. In the second and third part of introduction, wewill discourse the important statute of North America new immigration literature,concrete explanation of “The Other” and involved research methods further. And thenconstruct the whole paper according to the logic sequence of “Before Overstep-AfterOverstep”. The first part is surveying “The Other”.“The Other” image is created inforeign living circumstances of North America new immigrations through the imagegeneration of the “Savior” and “New Homeland” and deep analysis of “Foreign Lands”and “Mighty Authority”. The second part is finding “Selfhood”. We take identitydilemma of “Marginal Man” and “Memory” complex as the pointcut to explore thecultural connotation of North America new immigration literature. In the third part, wetake the Zhang ling’s “Family China” and Yan Geling’s “Oriental Women” as emphasisto analyze the Chinese “Selfhood” image in cross-culture context which comes from“The Other” image. In the last part, we will explore the possibility of integration standingon global perspective for “The Other” and “Selfhood”,national charter and heterogeneityof North America new immigration literature. The biased notion of “Cultural Centralism” will be refuted heuristically which is still existing in the field of North America newimmigration literature creation and research at present. Besides, some expectations willbe raised for the creations and researches of North America new immigration literature inthe future which is also the author’s enlightenment and apperception through long-rangeresearch for the North America new immigration writers.In a word, we will attempt to transcend the traditional research strategy of themereveals, character images analysis and narrative skill reading and focus on the closeintegration of detailed reading and culture images in this paper. Meanwhile, we will alsoconstruct the images of “The Other” and “Selfhood” and through the relationships ofwhich interpret the unique connotation of the new immigrant literature cross-culturalwriting.
