Zhao Lisheng (1917~2007), who was born in Anqiu town, Shandong province, is a well-known historian in China. Zhao is a full of personality scholar in the history of Chinese Historiography and known as "Yang Xiaolou in historian circle". Since his first historical paper:A survey on the Friendship of Shanxi and Shanxi Scholars in the Early Qing Dynasty published in Literature and History Week of Dagongbao that edited by Hu Shi in February1947, he has been working hard for nearly60years. He almost took up whole lifetime in teaching and researching of the history.He still let his pen keep writing until the end of life. His writing is quite rich, and has published over16academic works, also nearly200academic papers and other articles. Zhao advocated driving the textual research by speculative and emphasizes that historians should have the open historical perspective and knowledge of history, engaged in a wide range of research in the broad field. He has very wide range of academic interests. From their lifetime historian practice, history of peasant uprising in China, the history of ancient Chinese land system, the ancient Chinese thought and culture. These three fields are the most diligent and successful for Zhao. Zhao’s work is known for the dialectical thinking, full of practical relevance and insights unique point of view known. As for the beauty of words and literary talent on the altar of modern Chinese history, few can match him. Representative works of Zhao’s are Chinese Peasants’War Essays in the History, The History of the Land System, Rizhilu Review, and Zhao Lisheng Collection (six volumes) for issue in his old age.On the basis of detailed comb climb Zhao’s Historiography with his memoirs of others scattered research, this research try to be a comprehensive study and analysis from the point of its main historical achievement and theories and methods of academic history, and strive to be an objective assessment of their academic contribution.Besides the introduction, this test could be divided into four parts:The topic of the first part is the life and academic origin, briefing Zhao’s life, especially in focusing on his family environment, the impact of the growth experience and a unique life experience of his character and academic interests.The topic of the second part is the history of academic practices This part is discussed Zhao’s major achievements in the history from three aspects including the peasant war history, the history of the land system and intellectual and cultural history. This paper argues that for the study of the history of peasant war, Zhao clarified the specific development process of the ancient Chinese large-scale peasant war and summed up the overall development of the law of the ancient peasant war and its characteristics at different stages of time through a series of works. His contribution greatly expanded the scope of the study of the history of peasant war. In the field of research into the history of the land system, To the theory of Marxist classical writers as a guide with the social reality of the ancient Chinese, Zhao made a unique analytical and theoretically for the evolution process of the development of private ownership of land in Chinese history and got rid of the old saying that Chinese formers had been exploited since the ancient times. Zhao’s relevant results were so insightful. In the old age, Zhao focused on the study of ancient thought and culture, with particular emphasis on the research of The Three thinkers. His research on Gu yanwu’s life story not only clarified the deeds of making friends of Gu in the north of China in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasty, but also revealed the hidden underlying causes behind these deeds. His research in this area, rather illustrates secluded review of the power.The topic of the third part is historical thought. This part reveals Zhao’s historical research path and summarizes his historical research process followed by theory and research methods on the basis of the second part.The topic of the last part is conclusion The conclusion makes a comprehensive summary and objective evaluation of Zhao’s main achievements in the field of history and academic contribution from the angle of historiography.
