Abstract/Summary:
The thesis maintain in researching the intercommunity between the cursive and dancing.I have drawn a great inspiration from the attempt in combining chinese traditional elements with modern dancing show by Lin Huaimin.Taken as a whole, the cursive has a lot in common with dancing, especially about the naturality, embodiment and feelings for music. To start with, the strokes of calligraphy contains the point, the horizontal, the vertical, leftfalling strokes, hook storke, short leftfalling strokes, rightfalling strokes. What’s more, the beginning, ending, turning, combining in calligraphy and the logic of left before right,up before down is corresponding to the up,leap, turning, spinning, left before right,up before down in dancing.Secondly,as the character is made up of different storkes, which is less ink or more, different stops, and the speed of writing,it leads to the result of various shapes.Speaking of which, the density and spacing, support and oppose, move and successional are also the same as dancing. In addition, the writing approaches have many forms, such as, balancing strokes, side strokes, hidden strokes, typical strokes, square strokes, circle strokes, light or heavy strokes, and slow and fast strokes.which can be comprehended as the rhythm and melody in dancing. In other words, both are ways of expressing inner feelings. The reason why Lin Huaimin chose the Cursive as the core of the dancing is that Cursive can transfer the most accurate calligrapher’s emotions among the Seal character,Clerical script,Regular script,Running script and the Cursive. From some perspective,it is the same as the intention of modern dancing, namely unleashing and relaxing. All in all, the cursive has a large features such as,motion beauty, rhythm beauty, situation beauty, spiritual beauty, shape beauty, and molding beauty, etc.
