Everyone has to face death, in the late19th century early20thcentury, the threat of death is hanging over People’ s Daily lives.Through leads people to pay close attention to death, MaurieMaeterlinck thinking about the survival condition of human. In hisworks, he descripts different death situation and causes peoplethink of death. For he thought, only in that condition, people canrealize the limits of life and cause the compassion in human nature.In this sense, people should treat their limited life in a positive way.This thesis mainly embodied about the death consciousness inMaeterlinck’ s plays as the research object, combining the theory ofsymbolism, dramatic art principle. Choose all his drams whichinvole the death, and treat them as a whole. In this thesis, theanalyses based on the dram which invole the death writing, and thekey point focus on three aspects: driver of the thoughts, creativefeatures and aesthetic value of the drama. This essay includes fivechapters, the "introduction" briefly introduces Maeterlinck’s playsin the current research situation at home and broad, and points out the purpose and the significance of this study. In combination withspecific cases, the main body of this essay divided into threechapters from three levels. The first chapter analyses the imagingcreation of death through Maeterlinck’s plays, combined with thespecific drama elements which inclue death people, death imageand death situation, discoursing his death awareness reflected inhis writing; Chapter2analyse Maeterlinck’ s philosophical thinkingabout death, and the realtionship between his death consciousnessand his literature creation; Chapter3though the feature of theDeath consciousness in Maeterlinck’s drama, analyse the aestheticvalue of his plays. Conclusion part is the comprehensive summaryon the above part of this paper.
