Qing Dynasty is a critical stage in the whole process of thedevelopment of Chinese language, which is regarded as the end ofwritings in classical Chinese and the origin of writings in thevernacular. The writings of the Qing Dynasty, especially novels, puta significant role on the Chinese language history as a widespreadwriting style that completely reflects features of the contemporarylanguages. What’s more, double sound words, being used frequently,turned into a typical symbol of Chinese language at that time.Therefore, the research of Qing Dynasty’s double sound works haslaid the solid foundation for characteristics and tendency of QingDynasty’s language and literature.This paper attempts to discover Chinese double sound words’structure patterns as well as features, which has the aid of analysisof the characteristics of double sound words of Qing Dynasty ofSub-Not Language and intends to verify laws of development ofChinese language. This paper utilizes statistical analysis,altogether with comparative analysis, to classify and integratedouble sound words of Sub-Not Language, taking analysis of wordmeaning and grammar into account. And it puts the emphasis onconstruction and formation, parts of speech of double sound words. In addition, it carries out comparing double sound words withChinese words used during other former dynasties, attempting toexplore the characteristics and summary of Qing Dynasty’s doublesound words.The whole paper can be divided into six parts clearly andlogically.Part1mainly introduces reasons and meanings of the chosesubject and some relevant background, including the content ofSub-Not Language, author, edition, overseas and domestic researchstatus and research techniques, as well as standards of doublesound words.Part2analyses singe-morpheme words of Sub-Not Language.Singe-morpheme words consist of overlapped Singe-morphemewords and non-overlapped Singe-morpheme words, depending onwhether to overlap between two syllables inside one word.According to origins of non-overlapped Singe-morpheme words,there exist binding words and trans-pronunciation words. Amongbinding words, it can be further divided into binding words withdouble sounds, continuous binding words and non-continuousbinding words in order to research their senses and parts of speech.Part3emphasizes compound words with double sounds ofSub-Not Language. There are seven pairs of compound words suchas coordinative compound words, modified compound words,dominant type words, predicate connective words, supplementarytype words, additional type words as well as overlapping compoundwords. And the paper analyses their senses and parts of speech. Part4concentrates on semantics of double sound wordsSub-Not Language, aiming to draw a conclusion of double soundwords’ characteristics on the basis of analysis of ten different typesof semantics compared with modern semantics.Part5is a comparison of double sound words among Sub-NotLanguage, Chinese Acrobatics, Northern Anecdotes in terms ofqualities and patterns, making a summary that the number of doublesound words is increasing, and patterns stable, and semanticsapproaching Chinese ones.Part6is the last part of the paper to make a summary, whichgives a general outlook and predicts the tendency of developmentof Chinese language.The research is for the purpose of providing the valuablematerial to Chinese linguistics research.
