There is a close relationship between language and job hunting. With the intensive study of discourse analysis, many scholars, domestic and foreign, have done a lot of research on political speeches, contrast of news, courtroom discourse, doctor-patient discourse and so on. In recent years, people began to be interested in the analysis of workplace discourse, for it has become a widespread concern.As a relatively new perspective of discourse analysis, critical discourse analysis has attracted a widespread attention. Its main contents are:ideology determines the forms of discourse; rights are realized by discourse; doing the discourse analysis by combining with the context. Critical discourse analysis aims to analyze the language features and background (both social and historical) of language generation to explore the hidden ideology, and the relationship of the language, power and ideology. As a common and complex language phenomenon in daily life, conflict discourse can be seen everywhere, which means the conflict between one discourse and another discourse, or one person disagrees with another person’s words, behavior and manners, or both sides hold different opinions on somebody or something, and then the conflict discourse appears (Zhao Yingling,2004).In recent years, more and more people pay attention to the employment, at a result, job-hunting programs come into being, which provides people with a platform to look for jobs. The corpus of conflict discourse in this paper is taken from "The Apprentice"(the fourth season in2006) and the Chinese "Only You"(May2012to October2012). The conflicts happen between job hunters, job hunters and bosses, job hunters and the host, the host and the bosses as well as between the bosses. Through the analysis of these conflicts discourse, we can reveal the ideology behind them, analyze the association of conflict and power, and compare the ideological similarities and differences of Sino-US in the job, and then establish an effective discourse mechanism to help people behave well in the process of job hunting.Through analyzing several typical examples in “Only You” and “The Apprentice” withthe methods of occurrence and moves of conflict talks, we will get that one’s talks may beinfluenced by his/her power in the conversation. People who have a greater power can controlthe type and progress of talks to great extent. Moreover, the ideologies behind the speakersand social factors also play great role in deciding talking ways and contents of speakers. Theresearch in this thesis is a new attempt in the field of conflict talks, hoping that it will havegreat practical significance for job-hunters.
