This is a project report on translation of Chapter7of Introduction to RuralPlanning. The difficulties lie in the translation of charts, organization names,specialized terminology and long sentences. In the process of the translation, underthe principles of the theory of functional equivalence, different translating methodsare used to solve these problems such as: dividing, recasting and so on in order to befaithful to the original meaning of the ST as well as smooth in Chinese.The report consists of four parts. Part1is an introduction of the background andthe significance of this translation project. In Part2, apart from briefing thebackground of the source text and the authors, the language features of the ST areexamined. Part3focuses on the theory of functional equivalence, the difficulties inthe process of translation and the translation skills adopted in this project. Part4summarized the experiences by the translator and insufficiencies to be made up in thefuture.
