Poetics of Wang Fu-chih is a summary for Chinese Classical Poetics. However, due to Wang Fu-chih’s voluminous writings, how to grasp his Poetics has become the problem needed to be solved. This paper argues that though Wang’s narrative is fragmented and numerous, his Poetics system is a set of logically consistent ideas, and is based on "Poetic Ethics", which is the starting and ending points of the system. That is to say, stand on the basic Confucian Doctrine stance, Wang Fu-chih inherited the Chinese poetry tradition, he paid full attention on passing and expressing "emotion" in the poetry, so as to achieve common prosperity between aesthetic and enlightenment. It can be said that the "Poetic Ethics" theory, which focus on poetry’s enlightenment function, does not prevent Wang’s profound understanding of poetry as literature, and the inherent logic also provides limitations which affect his literary discourse; and also, his narratives about poetry as literary inherently deepen his "Poetic Ethics" theory:the two are unified dialectical whole. In this sense, Wang Fu-chih demonstrated the inherent richness and possibilities of Confucian literary theory. This paper consists of four chapters. The Introduction asks questions. Then, in chapter one, we reviews the historical development of the concept of "Poetic Ethics"before Wang Fu-chih. We selected three nodes which has closest relationship with Wang Fu-chih.Confucius, Zheng Xuan and "Great Preface of Book of Songs", Zhu Xi. And we focus on the following questions:how the Confucian define "poetry"? How to define the role of "poetry"? How to use "poetry" to educate? During discussion and comparison, we can find the inheritance and dialogue relationship between Wang Fu-chih and the historical developing concept of "Poetic Ethics". The second chapter describes the Wang Fu-chih’s ideas of "Poetic Ethics". We can find that in Wang’s poetic system,"Poetry express what’s intently on the mind" and "Poetry express emotion" is combined organically. This involves Wang Fu-chih’s complex terminology "emotion" and his ideas about the relationship between poetry education and music education. Wang Fu-chih not only backtracked Chinese classical tradition, but also thought about the feasibility of poetry and music as an educational tool. Meanwhile, in discussing how to implement poetry education, he also pushed this issue to philosophical level:how poetry education to be possible. The third chapter mainly inspect Wang Fu-chih’s concept of Poetic Ethics from perspective of philosophy and history, in order to explain how and why poetry should be possible to educate. We believe that these two fundamental issues are linked with Wang Fu-chih’s philosophy and his view on regime change.Chapter four inspects Wang Fu-chih’s poetics logic from his concept of poetic ethics. With the perspective of poetic ethics, Wang chose a series of standards and ideal text, to demonstrate what kind of content and style is ideal, and how to present and pass emotion in poetry. Based on this, Wang Fu-chih established a poetics system about poetry creation and appreciation.
