In the process of learning a second language, the vocabulary of the learners affects themastery of the target language to a large extent, thus, vocabulary teaching has become avital part of teaching Chinese as a second language. Teaching materials is the basis of theteaching content, is a concentrated expression of the teaching philosophy. It is also a mainmedia for the learners to learn Chinese. Meanwhile, it is directly related to the quality ofteaching. Almost all sets of comprehensive Chinese books for second language teachingcontain vocabulary teaching. Verb teaching is the most important content of vocabularyteaching in teaching Chinese as a second language. This is because in the Chinesevocabulary system, verb is a very important category of words: from the syntactic level, verbs can be used as predicate, subject, adverbial etc. syntactic component; from thelexical level, verbs can be used together with nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, and avariety of phrases as a combination. Since it is affected by the trend of disyllabism of themodern Chinese vocabulary, the research on two-syllable verbs in teaching Chinese as aforeign language needs adequate attention. However, the vocabulary arrangement of the Chinese books which can be read atpresent is still not satisfactory. It causes great obstacles to the learners while learningChinese, as while as various types of bias during the process of communication. This thesis selected two sets of Chinese books for comprehensive courses which arerepresentatives of the domestic Liu Xun’s "New Practical Chinese Reader" and WuHuihua’s Developing Chinese. I did exhaustive measurement statistics of thetwo-syllable verbs within the two sets of Chinese books as mentioned above, made atwo-syllable verb glossary, co-occurrence word glossary and its statistics of the distribution respectively. Based on this, I did the research on vocabulary selecting, meaning selection, tagging on Part of Speech (POS) and interpretation etc, analyzing the similarities anddifferences between them by the means of comparing and generalizing. Afterwards, Iproposed some proposals of vocabulary arrangement while compiling the Chinese booksfor teaching Chinese as a second language.
