| Being a subject of folk literature, fairy tale has its thriving vitalities and influences.As the pioneer of structuralism narratology, Propp, a Russian scholar, obtained a fairy tale of the conventional narrative pattern by analyzing the content of one hundred fairy tales.It is called the "magical narrative formula "and"31functional theory ". It is interesting that the narrative pattern is similar to the model of "Thousand Faces Heroic" and "Classical Hollywood narrative mode". The immobilized thinking reflects that our consciousness has an indelible psychological fairy tale plot."Avatar" is a typical structure of the fairy tale story. After the stunning visual boom subsided people began to study the theme and the meaning and narrative of movie. So many people feel that this is an old story. Why such a mode of adult fairy tale can make a box-office smash? The author think this is the results of the cooperative relationship of structuralism and deconstructivism.The plot of "Avatar"is a model of fairy tale narrative, but the significance is highly. We found on the outer deconstruction such as subversion of the traditional role stereotypes, prototype metaphor, cross-border cultural collage and universal values. They extend the functions of the traditional fairy tale. In this paper, the author intend to analyze the "Avatar " from the "structure" and "deconstruction" in narratology.The content is divided into five chapters:(1) The first part introduces the purpose of this study, its practical significance and analysis methods.(2) The second part is a theoretical introduction. Narratology is a large and complicated theoretical system. Futhermore. the theories of both structuralism and post-modern deconstruction are mentioned in the study. This chapter will focus on a clear description of narrative theory in order to have a solid theoretical foundation.(3) The third part is an analysis of structuralism. In this part, fairy tale mode adopted in the film will be discussed. The action scope of characters and the plot function will be explained based on the theory of Propp.And the narrative formula of this film will be concluded.(4) The fourth chapter focuses on deconstruction. It consists of three sections. First of all, the author will analyze the changes in characters and plot such as hero, princess, the magic assistant and the bad guy. The second part is about the changes in the ideological dimension. The film’s deep meaning will be analyzed from nationality, the theory of crisis, and sense of worth. The third part is the comparison of function accuracy, the author will observe that whether there are some changes in narrative function, the order, the type of narration and the accuracy of the functional items.(5) The last chapter is about some enlightenment for Chinese films, which includes popular version, subversive role, religionary prototype, language of the camera and universal values.Currently. Chinese fans generally criticized the local films for their lack of creativity. A large number of old themes are active in the big screen such as The Eight Happiness2, All’s Well, Ends Well Too2010, A Chinese Fairy Tale2, The Eagle Shooting Heroes2011,1love Hong Kong2012, Just Another Pandora’s Box is the Sequel of A Chinese Odyssey,and then Journey to the West:Conquering the Demons is a prequel of Sai yau gei: Dai yat back ling yat wui ji-Yut gwong bou haap.Since it is difficult to change the theme ideas,can we integrate and repair them in the peripheral genes?How to put them into practice?From this perspective,"Avatar"seems to provide some inspiration for us. |
