The study of funeral customs is one important aspect of Chinese ancient civilization development.The face-covering burial custom has been for a long time in our country, had discovered in the Neolithic burial.It can help us to reveal the social development and material civilization at that time and help to explore the spiritual world of the original inhabitants in the Age of Barbarism through the study on the face-covering of the pre-Qin period.This article seeks to collect comprehensive and carding system the material about the face-covering in the pre-Qin period,and then explore the origin of the face-covering and its special significance.This is also the significance of of the study.This thesis is divided into three parts to study the face-covering burial custom.The first part:The most important task is name the face-covering in view of archeology.We can draw the following conclusions after carding and unitling various names archaeologists used:the face-covering is a special burial customs of funeral culture in ancient China.It is the mulch covered up directly on the face of the deceased by itself.It is a special treatment to deceased facial in funeral etiquette.The second part:Combing the development and evolution of face-covering burial custom in the pre-Qin period.We will category sort the face-covering of different materials according to the development sequence of the Source,the Development,the Matureand and the Evolution. And then, summarize the characteristics of different periods of the face-covering.According to the number of archaeological excavation of the face-covering,we consider the jade face-covering prevalented in the Central Plains in the Western and Eastern Zhou Dynasty as emphasis of research.The third part:Explore the origin and propagation path of the face-covering burial custom.The original conception of the soul reflects the original understanding of the original settlers on death directly.In addition, primitive witchcraft and the level difference of the identity of the owner of the tomb is also important factor affecting the origin and development of the face-covering.The face-covering burial custom has gone through long-term evolution and spread from generation to mature.Its propagation path can be divided into three situations:the diffusion in the space,continuation in time and evolution on stratum.
