With the development of the economic globalization and social specialization, more and more industries raise more and higher requirements for the English majors. They think these graduates should have well-knit fundamental knowledge as well as good written and spoken English. As English majors in the independent colleges, they are poor in the fundamental English, and especially, their capabilities of thinking, speaking and intercommunication are relatively lower. Then how to improve their capabilities of oral English becomes an imperious problem for the leaders and teachers in the independent colleges.This study has concluded and analyzed the main problems which appear in the improving process of oral English capabilities for English majors in the independent colleges, and then put forward some strategies on improving oral English capabilities for English majors. This study includes five parts:Part one:Introduction. The author expatiated how the problem was raised, the purpose, plan, methods, and significances of research. After the sorting out of literature, the deficiency of the theoretical research has been advanced.Part two:The theoretical analysis on improving oral English capabilities for English majors in the independent colleges."Independent Colleges","Oral English" and "Oral English Capabilities" have been defined. And the composing factors of oral English capabilities as well as the influence reasons have been exampled by the author. Finally, the author analyzed the theoretical principles of this research in detail.Part three:The survey on the status in quo of oral English capabilities in the independent colleges. The author had chosen some students of English majors and oral English teachers in3independent colleges as the objects of study, and did a survey on the status in quo of oral English capabilities in the independent colleges. Based on the survey, the author has found some ideas from the above mentioned students and teachers.Part four:The reasons and analyses for the status in quo of oral English teaching and learning in the independent colleges. These analyses are based on the survey in three aspects which are students, teachers and teaching material.Part five:The strategies of improving oral English capabilities for English majors in the independent colleges. The author puts forward several practical strategies improving oral English capabilities for English majors in the independent colleges in detail.
